皖南事变后，新四军首长派侦察参谋谷梅村争取开明的工商界俊杰邵华。邵华在中共统一战线的感召下，与步德贤配合默契，成为我党在禹阳展开统战工作的可靠盟友。二人互相配合，发现挑起禹阳各派内斗的幕后黑恶势力与一个美丽非凡、魅力十足的女人有关，她就是中央社记者——沈紫卿。同时，也意外得知她竟是邵华幼年失踪的妹妹娇娇。为了拯救妹妹，邵华勇闯虎穴，唤醒了被蒙蔽的妹妹沈紫卿，在共产党的帮助下，兄妹联手与日军城防司令官藤垣铁藏斗智斗勇。在新四军收复禹阳的战斗中，沈紫卿牺牲。在血与火洗礼中，邵华与步德贤结为伉俪，并与谷梅村一道，共同抚育着沈紫卿的遗孤。然而，日本军国主义反人类行径，却给他们带来无法抚平的伤痛。。The film opens with a narrated disclaimer over footage of an opening coffin.
