瀬川丑松（間宮祥太朗）は、自分が被差別部落出身ということを隠して、地元を離れ、ある小学校の教員として奉職する。彼は、その出自を隠し通すよう、亡くなった父からの強い戒めを受けていた。 彼は生徒に慕われる良い教師だったが、出自を隠していることに悩み、また、差別の現状を体験することで心を乱し、下宿先の士族出身の女性・志保（石井杏奈）との恋に心を焦がしていた。 友人の同僚教師・銀之助（矢本悠馬）の支えはあったが、学校では丑松の出自についての疑念も抱かれ始め、丑松の立場は危ういものになっていく。苦しみのなか丑松は、被差別部落出身の思想家・猪子蓮太郎（眞島秀和）に傾倒していく。 猪子宛に手紙を書いたところ、思いがけず猪子と対面する機会を得るが、丑松は猪子にすら、自分の出自をカミングアウトすることができなかった。そんな中、猪子の演説会が開かれる。 丑松は、「人間は...。Nada, a beautiful French journalist on assignment in New York, records the life and work of an up and coming punk rock star, Billy.
