陈宝珠(毛舜筠饰)是一率直爽朗的女督察，与李祖荫(林保怡)饰结婚六年，祖事业有成而不满珠之工作，要求珠辞职，令珠困扰不已。珠工作上认识线人成大志(夏雨饰)，成是在赌场做围场的小人物,曾因维护母亲而入狱，以致失去了前途及旧情人任盈盈(文雪儿饰)，虽成母欲撮合成与郭有珍(胡美仪饰)，但终不成。 珠偶知祖风流成性而要求离婚，祖不肯，二人遂以婚姻做赌注，夫妇更以「人类的操守」大起争执.. 后决定以大志为目标，作一赌局。大志因欲开甜品屋，遂答应宝珠作一个月之住家工人，二人由斗气至产生感情，令宝珠甚为矛盾。大志终为珠赢得赌注，祖荫与宝珠离婚，祖荫对大志亦因而含恨在心。及后他的甜品屋被纵火，更怀疑是祖荫所为，令二人误会更深。后祖荫被绑架，大志被他指证为主谋，大志百辞莫辩，究竟大志最后能否洗脱不白之冤？，而宝珠对大志的感情最终又会如何抉择呢？。Dicte is a dedicated reporter and refuses to give up before she has her story.
